HOW TO STAY FIRE-SAFE THIS SUMMER
In the past 5 years, there have been 17,055 fire incidents nationwide resulting in 433 fatalities, 790 injuries, estimated property damages exceeding 7 trillion VND, and over 7,500 hectares of forests affected. The primary causes are system malfunctions and electrical equipment failures, accounting for about 45%.
In the past five years, there have been 17,055 fire incidents nationwide resulting in 433 fatalities, 790 injuries, estimated property damages exceeding 7 trillion VND, and over 7,500 hectares of forests affected. The primary areas of fire occurrences are in urban areas, accounting for over 60%. Fires and resulting damages are concentrated in residential areas and homes, often combined with commercial activities (constituting over 40% of the total incidents), as well as in manufacturing facilities and warehouses (making up around 30% of the total incidents). Some of these incidents have had particularly severe consequences for human lives.
These tragic incidents serve as a warning and underscore the urgent need for fire prevention and response efforts, setting new requirements and responsibilities for preventing and addressing emergencies, accidents, and fires, to ensure the safety of both property and, most importantly, human lives.
In the “Rubik Life” program, under the theme “Hazards of Homes Without Escape Routes” on Vietnam National Defense Television, Mr. Nguyen Do Tung Cuong, Chairman of the Vietnam Fire and Rescue Association, raised the question:
“Even though it’s early in the summer, fire and explosion incidents have continuously occurred nationwide, leaving significant consequences. We are deeply saddened by the fire incident at a nightclub in Hai Phong that claimed 3 lives on May 12. The following day, a 3-story house in Thanh Cong Street, Ha Dong District, Hanoi, caught fire early in the morning, resulting in the tragic death of 4 family members and leaving many deeply affected. It’s noteworthy that these houses are designed in a tube-like structure, and some are even enclosed with iron fences, resembling a ‘tiger cage’, which completely seals off escape routes. So, what should people do to protect themselves and their families from fire and explosion hazards?”
