What is the EI standard? Details about EI standards
What is the EI standard? For some types of fireproof structures such as steel structures, air ducts, fire partitions, wooden doors,… what is the EI fireproof standard? Please join KH Shield in following the information shared below.
1. What is EI fire resistance standard?
EI stands for the English phrase Integrity and Insulation, a set of standards regulating fire resistance limits of fire prevention and insulation components and products. This limit is determined by the time unit from the start of the fire resistance test under the standard heating regime (ie temperature increase from 0 – over 1500 degrees Celsius) until the structure begins to appear. indications of specified state limits. Specifically:
- E (Integrity): Is the limit on the integrity of fireproof structures. At this certain limit, the structure still maintains its shape without breaking, breaking, cracking, etc. The heat transfer ability of the fireproof material is not considered.
- I (Insulation): Is the limit on the thermal insulation ability of fireproof structures. At this certain limit, the structure still retains stable thermal insulation and the main structure is not affected by high temperatures.
Understanding what the EI standard is is very important. Because to classify fireproof products we often rely on their EI standards.
2. EI fire resistance standards for some types of products
NỘI DUNG BÀI VIẾT
2.1. Steel structure
Steel structure solutions need to meet EI fire resistance standards as follows:
- EI30: This means that during a maximum of 30 minutes of high temperature application, the steel structure still retains its original shape.
- EI60: This means that during a maximum of 60 minutes of fire impact, the steel structure still retains its original shape.
- EI90: This means that for up to 90 minutes of high temperature resistance, the steel structure still retains its original shape.
- EI120: That is, within the time reaching 120 minutes when the steel structure test still retains its original shape.
2.2. Air duct
Fire-resistant air ducts are also a type of structure commonly used to increase construction safety. Because there are many types of fire-resistant air ducts, they are often divided based on EI standards as follows:
- EI30: air duct has an outer shell structure that can withstand fire continuously for up to 30 minutes under the effect of high temperature.
- EI45: air duct has an outer shell structure that can withstand fire continuously for up to 45 minutes under the effect of high temperature.
- EI60: air duct has an outer shell structure that can withstand fire continuously for up to 60 minutes under the effect of high temperature.
- EI90: duct has good integrity and insulation, when directly affected by fire, the resistance time reaches 90 minutes.
- EI120: air duct has high integrity and very good insulation. When exposed to direct fire, the resistance time reaches 120 minutes.
- EI150: air duct can withstand the influence of high temperatures for a maximum of 150 minutes.
- EI180: This fireproof, insulated duct can withstand continuous heat for up to 180 minutes
2.3. Fire partition
Fire partitions are often classified according to the following EI standards:
- EI45: Has a special structure that can withstand fire in high temperature environments for up to 45 minutes.
- EI60: Able to withstand heat effects for up to 60 minutes while still maintaining integrity.
- EI90: Able to maintain integrity when exposed to direct fire for 90 minutes.
- EI120: Can withstand the effects of maximum temperature for 120 minutes.
- EI150: Can withstand continuous heat for up to 150 minutes.
2.4. Wooden door
Wooden fire doors are classified based on the following EI standards:
- EI45: A type of wooden door with a maximum fire resistance limit of 45 minutes while still retaining its original shape.
- EI60: A type of wooden door with a maximum fire resistance limit of 60 minutes while still maintaining integrity.
- EI90: A type of wooden door with a maximum fire resistance limit of 90 minutes without deformation.
- EI120: A wooden door with a maximum fire resistance limit of 120 minutes and does not warp, warp, burn, etc.
There are also wooden doors with higher fire resistance levels, up to 150 or 180 minutes. However, according to the new regulations on testing fireproof wooden doors, currently no supplier has successfully burned test samples.
